Indonesian equities climbed 51 points, or 0.8%, to 6,511 in Wednesday morning trade, snapping a five-session losing streak as U.S. futures firmed ahead of the Federal Reserve’s policy decision later in the day. Domestically, attention shifted to the newly appointed finance minister’s initial fiscal measures and credibility-building steps, with Suahasil Nazara reiterating a commitment to budget discipline, including adherence to the 3% deficit cap.

The advance was partly restrained by caution ahead of Bank Indonesia’s policy meeting next week, amid renewed rupiah weakness and continued foreign outflows. Investors are also keeping an eye on MSCI’s November review, where Indonesia faces potential downgrade risks to frontier market status should reform momentum stall.

August economic data from China, Indonesia’s key trading partner, painted a mixed picture: retail sales slowed and unemployment edged higher, while industrial production showed improvement. Gains in Jakarta were broad-based, led by energy, industrials, and basic materials. Among notable movers were Impack Pratama Industri (up 4.6%), Summarecon Agung (4.2%), Vale Indonesia (2.8%), and Timah Tbk (2.5%).
