In October 2025, Ireland's trade surplus contracted significantly to EUR 4.35 billion from EUR 9.49 billion recorded in the same month the previous year. This represents the smallest surplus since December 2024, primarily due to a substantial decline in exports coupled with increased imports. Export levels fell by 21.6% year-on-year, reaching EUR 16.62 billion. This decline was primarily driven by a sharp 36.2% reduction in the export of medical and pharmaceutical products, which constituted 42.2% of Ireland’s total exports. Notably, exports to Great Britain decreased by 3.7%, while there were considerable increases in shipments to the United States (up 25.6%), the Netherlands (up 10.8%), and Belgium (up 10.3%).

On the imports side, there was a rise of 4.7% to EUR 12.27 billion, with notable surges in imports of organic chemicals by 58.7% and office machinery and automatic data-processing equipment by an impressive 133.2%. The primary countries supplying goods to Ireland were the United States (13.6% of total imports), Great Britain (11.7%), and Germany (9.3%).

Over the first ten months of 2025, Irish exports have experienced a 22% increase, reaching EUR 228.46 billion, with 45.7% of all exports directed to the United States. Imports, on the other hand, have risen by 5.6%, totaling EUR 117.29 billion for the same period.
